I just wanted to post this quickly as a cool/simple idea for a little descriptive art project. These word plots were created from hundreds of descriptions & comments that botanists had attached & submitted to their herbarium records across California. In the following two images you can slightly see how the comments for M.cardinalis correspond to canyons & streams around the Sierras, while M.lewisii records are primarily collected along streams near high elevation alpine lakes, and around popular parks & protected areas.
